Two thumbs up chef! We certainly felt your passion for food in your dishes and we can really attest to the no MSG promise.

Breakfast was fantastic too. The highlight of breakfast has got to be a simple dish- Eggs. Egg-fanatics will love the freshly prepared kampong eggs. We had sunny side up and the egg yolks were in a bright orange tone, something that we seldom get (at least for me) from the eggs that I usually purchase.

With CNY round the corner, we are all getting our homes and of course ourselves ready to welcome this joyous festive celebration.

So shorten those skirt ladies and flaunt those lovely legs!!

But if you are bough down by unsightly scars on your legs, strut on in style too or alternatively, you could try what I did.

The answer to my scar woes, Rosehip oil from Essano. So here’s a review on their skincare products and thanks to the scar-eraser, my scars are gone for good! (Do note that I have slight eczema and thus explains for the little bumps around my skin. It is also slightly sensitive as well, which explains for the redness. The following photos shown are not edited or filtered.)

I used it after a tiny drop of rose hip oil when my aircon is on during the night. However, I will prefer to use it on its own when my aircon isn’t turned on.

Review: I have combination skin thus I am glad that this moisturiser works well for me as the level of hydration and moisture is perfect for my skin type. I use it after toning my skin and proceed on with my sunblock.

Gently cleanses while replenishing your skin’s natural moisture barrier.

Review: It really foams up wonderfully and cleanses without leaving my face “squeaky clean” but I totally feel my pores being deep cleansed and the fact that they have included aloe vera for hydration makes it a must have for me from now on.

Overall Review: I will certainly give Essano two thumbs up for the range of plant based, natural ingredients products and most of all being an animal lover, I am glad that Essano’s products are cruelty free and not tested on animals and with that being said, prices for their products are being kept at a reasonable range as well. Thank you Essano, for creating an eco and animal friendly range of products.

Simplicity struck my senses as we stepped into Sushi Mentai. No stark differences from the rest of the Japanese restaurant, I thought to myself.  However, with closer observation I began to notice that the chefs at the counter were constantly working with grace on each piece of sushi to ensure that the sushi conveyor belt is filled with an array of sushi and the intense focus the chef had on his sashimi as he slices the perfect cut, it almost feels like I am embarking on an omakase meal. But expect nothing close to the price of omakase and freshness comparable to that at Sushi Mentai!

Gourmet sushi at Sushi Mentai ranges from $1.30 to $1.80. Yes you seen it right! The maddening crowd and the snaking queue of customers speaks for the value for money gourmet food serve at Sushi Mentai.


Origins of Sushi Mentai

The word Mentai comes from the Japanese name Mentaiko. Mentaiko is the marinated roe of pollock and cod.  It is a sauce that is served with exquisite Japanese cuisine.

With its name deriving from Mentaiko, Sushi Mentai prides themselves by crafting only the finest Mentaiko sauce. (*Drumrolls*) The secret ingredient or recipe to their Mentaiko? Sushi Mentai uses only “A” graded pollock and cod, coupled with mayonnaise that are freshly imported from Japan and with a magical touch of Sake that will have any bon-vivant to go bogus for. And that’s not all peeps, the Mentaiko has to go through the holy grail, that is the sauce has to be lightly barbecued, before it is all ready to be served.

I can simply recall the smooth texture of the Mentaiko as it glided down my throat.

What’s good and what’s not in Penang? Here’s WAOblog’s take on it

Penang a great place where lanes are perpetually filled with an aroma of food and lined with busy hawkers with their food carts.

So here are our food pit stops in Penang!

What we ordered: Carrot cake, steamed dumpling, beancurd with meat fillings, Fishcake
Review: The steam dumpling was quite the usual. We loved the fishcake as it was springy, bouncy and “QQ.” Fried carrot cake was good, as we loved the soft on the inside and crispy on the outside texture.


We explored “Little India” in Penang and had our next meal at Kapitan Katering.

What we ordered: Chicken Tika, Fish and Sotong Egg
Review: Chicken Tika was below expectation. It was simply too dry. However the Fish and Sotong eggs were so good that we chomped it down without thinking about the cholesterol that comes with it!

Review: Ironically, the braised egg that came with the bowl of Prawn noodles and Lor Mee took the centre stage. The noodles tasted mediocre.

What we ordered: Duck with young ginger or姜芽鸭and tofu with crab meat sauce.
Review: Duck with young ginger. This has got to website like this be the best hawker food throughout our trip and we will definitely be back again. We felt like we were being transported back to the 50s or 60s as we approach the coffee shop. Situated below an old block of flats, the al fresco area brings a nostalgia feel to the entire place. Food was served on a metal plate with no fancy arrangement and what seems like any regular “zi char” dish blew our taste bud! The duck and ginger were superbly tender and flavorful and nope it didn’t tasted like it had loads of MSG added in. 姜芽鸭. With the word 芽 we assumed that there will be beansprout in the dish and were trying to look for the beansprout in the black sauce.

We checked with the friendly business owner and she explained that the word 芽 do not refer to 豆芽 (beansprout) . 芽 meant young ginger. Which explains the tenderness of the ginger and the fragrant ginger taste instead of the usual spicy taste we get from the old ginger. The tofu was good too, but should you have stomach space for only one dish, just go with the ginger duck dish.

Little Light Bulb, Big Strength

The shocking news of 小灯泡 or little light bulb has been weighing on the minds of our editorial team recently and we simply feel so much for the passing on of a sweet innocent life that has left us in a most cruel way.

Here’s a quick summary in chronological order on the tragic incident that happened in Taiwan on 28 March 2016.

At 8am a video footage captured Wang Jing Yu purchasing a cleaver at a department store. He proceeded to Xi Hu Junior School thereafter and loitered outside the school. He had plans to enter the school’s premises by climbing over the walls but his plans were shelved as passerby were getting suspicious of him.

10am. The toddler and her mum were on their way to meet her granddad, uncle and her twin siblings at the train station.  The toddler was on a tricycle and was cycling along side with her mum who was pushing a pram. They were taking the route that Wang was loitering around and he spotted the pair from the school’s main gate and started tailing them.

The toddler began to trail slightly behind her mum when they were on a slope. Wang spotted the scene and rushed up. Upon noticing Wang, mummy assumed that he was trying to help her toddler to speed up and reacted politely by telling Wang that its fine to let her ride on her own.

The tragedy struck when Wang held the head of the toddler with his left hand and whipped out his hidden cleaver under his jacket with his right hand and brutally wielded her neck with it.

Upon witnessing this, Mummy struggled with Wang while screaming for help. Blood was seen splattering on Wang’s face, but he continued with his action with a minimum wield of 12 strokes of the cleaver. The fragile structure of the toddler gave way to pressure from the action and she was decapitated within seconds.  It took seven passerby to stop Wang from his action and pinned him down. 2 of the Samaritans were brothers who were working in a nearby garage and were armed with metal poles and the other 5 were passerby.

11am. A devastated but composed mummy was seen giving her statement to the police at the crime scene while Wang was handcuffed away by the police. An angry crowd were seen gathering at the crime scene and some came armed with weapons, awaiting to strike Wang once they get sight of him.

Wang hallucinated that he was an emperor while being interrogated and commanded the police officers to bow to him (Emperor)  and said that he was instructed by higher power to continue his lineage by finding a girl from Sze Chuan and kill her thereafter. Upon further interrogation on the link between his crime and the continuity of his lineage, he simply uttered a bunch of nonsenses and was unable to provide a reason.

The passing on of a loved one isn’t easy to swallow much less witnessing the entire scene and being so near yet so far to help your love ones when they are in need.  Nonetheless Claire Wang epitomized remarkable strength, courage and positive attitude when she wrote the facebook post and it certainly reminded us to love and treasure all our love ones around us.

Instead of drowning in negativity and hatred, she encouraged the public to do more to prevent such incidents.


“This is not a problem that can be solved by passing a law, I hope we can address the problem from its root, from the perspective of family and education, so there will no longer be such perpetrators in our society.”

Review: The original white soup base has a strong coconut taste and fragrant to it and has zero spiciness. The “shiok” part kicks in when the chili paste is being added into the soup and lo and behold, you get the entire flavourful and authentic bowl of Penang White Curry Mee.

Review: The flavour and texture were good on the whole, but this is definitely not one of the best roasted duck and pork that we have tried so far.

What we ordered: Fish head bee hoon and frog leg soup and fried fish.
Review: We ordered what was recommended before we got ourselves a table and upon heading to our table, we noticed that most, if not all of the customers were having tom yam mee. Perhaps “when in Rome, do what the Romans do” stands truth for this eatery, as the dishes that we ordered tasted average. Unfortunately we had no more room for another bowl of Tom Yam soup. Do drop us a comment if you have tried the Tom Yam soup.

A little tip, based on the experience above. Reviews from food blog or articles are subjective. You might want to do a simple recee or “scan” through what the locals ordered before placing your order.

Review: Smoked duck was done to perfection and tasted lovely with the yuzu sauce. The beef burger tasted average. It could have been better if the meat was thicker.

What we ordered: Lemon poppy seed cake
Review: Well it is definitely the closest we can get to have poppy legally! We were surprised by the find too and seriously it tasted quite good with the lemon and don’t worry too much about the poppy it tasted like “finer” chia seeds in a lemon butter cake.

Of Music and Art: The Legend Retold, the legend of the Sisters’ Islands by Ding Yi Music Company

Singapore is often referred as the “Lion city”, “Garden city”, the “Red Dot” and perhaps the description of her being an urban jungle. But delve deeper and you be amazed by the folklores associated with Singapore and the islands surrounding her. With that said, the legend or story behind the formation of Sisters’ island has always intrigued me the most…

According to Wikipedia, “Sisters’ Islands are two of the Southern Islands in Singapore and are located to the south of the main island of Singapore, off the Straits of Singapore. Big Sister’s Island, about 39,000 m2 (9.6 acres) in area and also known as Pulau Subar Laut in Malay, faces the open sea, while Little Sister’s Island, about 17,000 m2 (4.2 acres) in area and also known as Pulau Subar Darat in Malay, faces the mainland. The two islands are separated by a narrow channel. Currents through this channel can be very dangerous to swimmers and divers.”


There are a few versions of the legend of Sisters’ islands and Ding Yi Music Company is going to take audiences into the immersive story through the unique mediums of sand art with the prodigious sand artist, Lawrence Koh , an alluring Hawaiian Javanese Dance by Garrett Kam and conducted by an esteemed Guest Conductor, Quek Ling Kiong. The concert will showcase the new arrangement of the award winning composition “The Sisters’ Islands” by young Singapore composer, Wang Chen Wei.

However, Karen, owner of The Traveling C.O.W – Chef On Wheel explains that the name came as the acronym of Chef of Wheels forms the word C.O.W. Thus the name The Traveling C.O.W – Chef On Wheel was born.

The Traveling C.O.W – Chef On Wheel, located at a quiet mall/office and with windows facing rows of trees and the counter decorated with cow spots, it seems as though we have entered a tranquil part of Singapore within the city area. To bring the entire back–to-nature atmosphere to another notch, Karen has planted edible herbs on each table and remains passionate about being environmental friendly by using bio-degradable corn-ware for all the utensils, bowls, plates.. etc.

We started the tastings with a light appetizer- Chicken Salad. We guarantee you that this chicken salad won’t be your regular salad that you purchase at the deli or any other cafés. The chicken has a “smooth like tofu” texture and an oriental twist to it. Yes it tastes like the Hainanese version of chicken salad.

Next was Mac and Cheese Truffle ball. I adored these from the core of my heart. The perfect combination of truffles, macaroni and cheese exploded in my mouth as I chomped my first bite down. A word of advice, as with most “cheesey” food, these cheese balls have to be taken while they are still fresh and hot off the stove.

The next thumb up dish has to be the Ramen chicken wings! Okay we have to admit that we are suckers for all food chicken wings by nature. However, these wings are packed with “crunch element” Every bite makes me feel like Cookie Monster from Sesame Street! These wings are definitely a “No No” food for the cinemas.  We guarantee a kick in the butt by other cinema go-ers if you were to consume it while watching a movie!

For me personally, the star of the tasting has got to be the Ramen mushroom wagyu beef with egg burger and the Chicken rice burger. Though each burger was wonderful and different in their way.   The Ramen mushroom wagyu beef with egg burger with its ramen as its substitute for the usual bread keeps the fried egg, succulent wagyu patty and chunky servings of mushroom in its place. The taste and presentation of the chicken rice burger will set any traditional Hainanese chicken rice chef into a cardiac arrest! Traditional chicken rice is being fried into golden brown patties and cleverly sandwiched the sapid fleshy Hainanese chicken. Love From the Stars 2015

2015 certainly marks an eventful jubilee for Singapore.  However get ready for more Singapore, as Artistes Christian Fellowship ( ACF 人之家 )  will be celebrating her 30th years anniversary as well.


We are greatly bless that Christian artistes from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Malaysia will also be joining us in the concerts.


Followings are some details of the concerts:

“星中有爱” Love from the Stars’15 – A concert of praise & worship through songs, drama and testimonies.

Date : 4-12-2015 (Friday) 7pm | 6-12-2015 (Sunday) 2:30pm and  7pm
Venue : Suntec City Level 6 Hall 601 – 604
Seating Capacity : 6000 per concert

To accompany the concert, a book titled “Footprints” and a music CD will be published. “Footprints “ contains touching stories and testimonies from our artistes and people from the media industry.

By the grace of God, we pray that the concerts, the book and the CD will touch many pre-believers as we express our gratitude and love for Christ with songs, drama and testimonies.


With that, ACF has lined up rock solid concerts with local leading artistes as well as renowned artistes from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia. The star-studded event is only part of the finale. The “appetizer” for the event comes in the form of “cookies.”

So read on and find out what’s “baking up the sleeves” of the good folks at  ACF.

While most are relaxing their Sunday away, God’s little helpers from ACF were gathered at Creative Culinaire to bake up loads of “Love Cookies.”

The camera was rolling away and excitement filled the baking studio. With a final shout for joy by the celebrities, the stupendous moment was finally being captured in perfect moment.

We were quickly paired with celebrities into a group of four and all were giving their 101% attention to Chef Judy Koh while she was demonstrating the dough making process. The cookie deco process certainly brought out the Picaso in each of them. The “masterpieces” were displayed for the cameras before getting packed and all were in elation at their works of “Love”.

Crunch time came and we chomped down a cookie to sample the fruit of the celebs’ labour! The verdict? Simple butter cookie never tasted so heavenly.
